I have had several issues trying to get the software to work.
- When I first installed the software, I would open the Administration module, which would take about a minute to load and then give me the error message "Login timeout expired." Any other module I tried to launch would give me the same error message. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Sage software, which did not work. During installation of the server, I was also getting an error message that the version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 that was being installed was not compatible with Windows 7. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 from the Microsoft website to try to resolve this issue, which also made no difference.
- Several days later, I tried to launch the Administration module again, and this time it did launch, and gave me a login prompt. I was able to get as far as restoring the database I was supposed to use. I then closed that module, launched the Accounting module, and got the error message that my activation code was invalid. I went back to the Administration module to enter the activation code that had been emailed to me when I first downloaded the software. The activation code did not work. I tried using a classmate's activation code, which did not work. I requested that a new activation code be emailed to me, which also did not work.
- In all three cases, I was trying to enter an Evaluation code that started with DM-. It appeared that the code field expected strings of five characters separated by dashes (DM-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx etc.), while the activation codes from the emails contained strings of four characters separated by dashes (DM-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx etc.). Copying and pasting a code resulted in the string being reformatted to fit the five-character-string format, and the code was not accepted. I tried entering the code by hand, which resulted in spaces where the fifth character was expected. This was also not accepted. Therefore I could not run any module other than the Administration module.
- I uninstalled all the software and downloaded and installed a new copy from the new email link that had been sent to me. I have now been restored to getting the "Login timeout expired" error message when I open the Administration module.
Thank you for your patience, and I would greatly appreciate any help you could give.

Sounds like you have problem with your server installation and you installled off of a old activation code.
Do the following
Use the instructions you were given to get a current activation code.
Uninstall the workstation, server, and microsoft sql server in that order.
Reinstall per the instructions.
If you are installing on a Windows 7 or Windows 2008 server machine you will get an error message about a compatibility issue. DO NOT EXIT the installation. Every time you get a warning about compatibility go ahead and continue with the installation. At the end of the installation process you will need to load some update from Microsoft.
To do this go to Control Panel>Windows Update.
If it is not already installed go ahead and install it and then Check for All Updates.
This will return an update for SQL 2005 Express Service Pack 4. Install this update. This will update the SQL Server 2005 from SP2 that we deliver to Service Pack 4.
I got my activation code using my 5th edition textbook. I don't know where to get a more current activation code.
Never mind, it looks like it's working now. Thanks.
