Slow Food USA recently announced that it received a $1.2 million grant - its largest donation ever - from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. With the capacity-building grant, Slow Food will expand its program by establishing a public initiative, developing partnerships with other key organizations and raising awareness about the food system in new communities.

"This is a historic moment for Slow Food USA and it could not have come at a better time as we build momentum for the next few years," said Katherine Deumling, board chair of Slow Food.

Since it was established in 1989, Slow Food has worked to educate people about the origins of food and the impact food choices can have on other parts of the world. The organization encourages communities to come together around local food and traditions to combat the fast food movement.

"We're confident that Slow Food's extensive network will help more children and families get the good food they need to thrive," said Linda Jo Doctor, program officer of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
